A charming mountain escape in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia, the historic Martha Washington Hotel and Spa was originally built in 1832 as a private residence for a Virginia general. Throughout the years, it has also served as a finishing school for young women, a Civil War hospital, and a women's college, and it opened as a hotel in 1935, paying tribute to its historic legacy with gracious Southern hospitality and the genteel elegance of period antiques and furnishings.
